Classes Offered

Theatre Arts

(Beginning, Intermediate, ​Advanced, Proficient)

Students will explore character through​ pantomime, improvisation and effective​ speaking using articulation, projection and​ breathing. Students practice writing for the​ theatre and explore various theatre roles and​ functions, while also studying acting, design,​ and dramatic literature to increase the​ enjoyment and understanding of what is​ required to prepare plays for the public.​ Students explore theatre history, study the great​ American playwrights, examine the cultural and​ historical contributions to theatre, and use the​ information to inform and improve their​ theatre knowledge and skills. Students use the​ basic elements of theatre design through​ practical application and projects involving​ costumes, props, and scenery.​


Video Production

This course teaches the technical skills and creative ​principles required for single camera ('film style') ​video field shooting and post production using Final ​Cut Pro®. Topics include audio, video recording ​technology, composition, lighting, continuity, and ​editing. The student will gain experience planning, ​shooting and editing entertainment- and/or ​information-based video projects will be provided ​through hands-on exercises, projects and ​assignments. We will also be responsible for the ​Morning Announcements Show. We actively ​compete in the NC Filmworks Competition through ​the International Thespian Society.

Play Production

Play Production is an advanced theatre course ​designed to dive into your performance abilities. In ​this course, we will study various acting theorists ​from Stanislavski to Bogart and everything in ​between. Theses studies will be applied to various ​performance assessments including monologues, ​scenes, and a final production. In addition to ​working on theorists, we will complete research, ​work on technical elements, and complete any task ​necessary to produce the final productions. This ​course may also include various performance ​opportunities in the community during the class ​time.
